Evaluation Part 8

Our preliminary task was a bit of a disaster in my opinion because even though we didn't break the 180 degree rule and did match on action, the concept was boring which I feel is the reason I feel it was such a let down, but as I said at least we stuck to match on action, the 180 degree rule and we even did an over the shoulder shot, which I would say was the only successful thing.
Overall, I feel that this whole task has been a complete success. Looking back, I thought that it wouldn't turn out well or I'd have a minor part to play, but now, I've seen that I can work in a group where decisions are made together. I think that our concept is quite good as well, the fact that we were able to come up with it ourselves to later find that there is actually a similar real feature film, Sliding Doors. One thing that didn't work was that we would never all be together at the same time unless it was a lesson, but then, there wasn't enough time. There were times that we'd stay at school until four just to get a couple of shots to improve our sequence to meeting up on a Sunday.
Compared to my first ever film, this is a major improvement because I know what research has to be done, what codes and conventions need to considered and whether or not it challenges these codes and conventions.

Evaluation Part 7

During pre-production, we decided it was for the best to use one of our member's digital camera as it would have been much easier to edit. She took it upon herself to edit on Sony Vegas pro 8, which the rest on us are thankful for as we wouldn't have been able to edit efficiently as she had.
We had to show evidence that we were working which was the evidence of recce.
I used my group member's digital camera to film the whole piece. Even though I'm not very good with technology, using that was pretty basic so I was able to film to the best of my ability. I'm glad we did use our group member's digital camera because editing would have been a disaster as with our continuity piece. We did have some difficulty with actually finding people to actually show up and take part but in the end we was able to get it done. I've learnt how to work in a team where your team is as much dependent on you as you are on them. There were times when we all weren't present but that was when the foundations were laid and we just had the littlest things to brush up on. Also, I've learnt how to embed codes and found a site where you can get various amazing fonts styles.

Evaluation Part 6

I would like to think that we have gone to the extent of reaching our target audience. I believe that our title sequence mirrored what was asked of us by our audience in the first place. The plot of our title sequence was based on what some of our target audience goes through or may go through. Our title sequence shows what genre it is so it's clear to our target audience. It's about the hopeless romantic trying to get the girl but he doesn't because he's such a geek that she can't see beyond that. It's comedic because as some of our target audience attends school, there may be a lot of geeks that fancy the popular girl but could only dream of talking to her.
We got back quite positive feedback from our first screening. As Jessica works in London City., we got some beautiful shots which the audience like and the shots came out really well thanks to the good weather; the light hits them in the right way. Those shots give you a sense of serenity even if it's just briefly. The way each shot is integrated just adds to the final product of our film. Our group was very dedicated to finishing it, getting it right and just do the best that we can do. We all had something to add to our title sequence, I hope it shows because we all worked hard for it to be the success I hope it will be.
We ensured that where there was speech, it was very clear and loud enough to hear over the non digetic sound. I think that the length is fine but we could have made slight adjustments.

Evaluation Part 5

Our film represented the social group of white young people/women.
The character of Eddie Lee represents the stereotypical view of a geek. Even though he may be ambitious, he has a deficit and bad luck when it comes to females. We have imitated a stereotype like Eddie Lee through his performance. His character is very scattered and unlucky in love.
Eddie wakes up late which causes him to be late to work. Ironically, the girl he likes is always at the top of her game as not only is she time efficient and kind, she's able to make friends which is how she ended up with the office stud and bad boy, Trevor.
The character of the ‘stud’ is also shown through the stereotype of the cocky, handsome, aloof man that every woman wants to be with and every man wants to be. He has what Eddie hasn't got, the ability to make people like him. Th music we decided on has aspects of romance but it still upbeat at the same time. While editing, we wanted to use scenes that our target audience could relate to so it had to have some aspects of realization, hence the office, train station and houses. We hope that the setting shows the right type of people and interests the correct type of people.

Evaluation Part 4

Our film uses and develops the forms and conventions of real media products.
We researched various codes and conventions for our title sequence.
As we were doing a rom-com, we had to follow the codes and conventions for that type of genre. We first decided the plot by thinking of typical rom-coms. One in particular that is very similar the 'Love on the Line' is Sliding Doors, we actually didn't realize this until a teacher said our title sequence resembled it. I think the fact that the title includes 'Love' shows that it will obviously be in the genre of love or along the lines of that. In the actual title sequence, it isn't until we see a devastated Eddie watching the girl he loves (Jessica) go into the arms of another man (Trevor) that we actually get the gist that it's about love portrayed in a comedic way. We used a tripod for most of our shots and sequence. We used various camera shots such as over the shoulder shots, point of view shots, mid shots and some close ups. We varied it so that the effect it would have on the viewer would b widespread.
Since we used a digital camera, editing wasn't very hard, we didn't use Final Cut Pro but one of our group members used Sony Vegas pro 8 . We weren't allowed to use any copyrighted music so we had to used royalty free music.
As we couldn't go to Eddie's house we had to use a room to shoot the room scene. We were a bit under equipped but we still managed. For our credits, we went onto a site called, DaFont. We chose the font we did because we thought it would fit in well with our chosen genre.

Evaluation-Part 3

We throughly did research into film distributors for our sub genre of rom-coms. We decided to use Miramax Films to distribute our film because they have been producing and distributing a large amount of films throughout the years. The rom-coms they have done are: Sliding Doors, Bridget Jones Diary and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. As Miramax Films are well known, it will be a reason for people to see our film because of the reputation Miramax Films has. The first Miramax Films film was Robinson Crusoe, 1997 and has up to today, the 21st century, 2011, carrying on this legacy with Last Night, 2011.
I am glad to say that this distribution company has had 7 billion worldwide box office.

Evaluation-Part 2

The target audience for ur film is 15-35 year old females, preferably students or housewives. It could also appeal some males if they like rom-coms. It think it may mostly appeal the females that have male problems in their lives, not necessarily relationship problems but just with the opposite sex in general. The females that would like the film would be majorly engrossed with fashion, hair and make-up. I think that they would buy magazines like OK, More and Vogue. We did a questionnaire to find out if people would come and see our film, we also took heed to their feedback.
